Instructions
Step 1
Put steak into a bowl with bicarb and mix so that the beef is coated. Set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 2
Gently fry onion in a frypan over a low-medium heat for 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and garlic and continue cooking until onions are soft.
Step 3
While onion is cooking, rinse steak under cold water to wash off bicarb and pat dry with paper towel. Put into a large bowl along with flour, salt and pepper and mix until coated. Heat casserole or large pot until hot. Add oil and fry beef until browned.
Step 4
Add cooked onions and mushrooms to pot with beef. Crumble in stock cubes and tomato paste or passata and worchestershire sauce. Add water until covered and herbs if using and mix then simmer on medium to medium-high for 15-20 minutes.
Step 5
Steam or cook potatoes in microwave for 3-5 minutes. Add carrots and continue cooking until tender. Remove and set aside and steam or cook beans until tender, about a minute.
Step 6
Add cooked veg to beef and simmer on low for another 10-15 minutes. Remove whole herbs if using.
Step 7
Taste for seasoning and serve.
