Salisbury steak recipe
What do you call these?
I don’t know who James is, but kind sir, we appreciate you for your contribution to comfort food!
✨For The Steaks
1 pound lean ground beef (I used 80/20 grass fed)
1/4 cup Italian panko breadcrumbs
1 large egg , beaten
2 teaspoons bbq sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray’s brown sugar and honey)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 packet Lipton’s beefy onion stew
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (for the skillet)
✨For The Gravy
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 onion (sliced)
Creole seasoning, to taste
✨Directions
1. In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the steaks (except the oil) until combined.
2. Shape the mixture into 4-6 equal patties.
3. In a large nonstick skillet or cast-iron, heat olive oil over medium-high heat; add the patties in and cook for 2-3 minutes per side ( or until they get a nice golden crust). Remove from heat to a plate.
4. Reduce the heat to medium and in the same skillet with the drippings, add butter. Once melted, add in the onions and sauté down, then add flour and whisk until combined and no lumps.
5. Reduce heat to medium-low and pour in the beef broth, whisking well.
6. Simmer for 5 minutes to thicken. Season with Creole seasoning, to taste.
7. Add the partially cooked patties back to the skillet and nestle into the gravy; cover and cook another 10 minutes until cooked through. Remove lid, and sprinkle fresh parsley on top.
8. Serve steaks over mashed potatoes with some of the gravy drizzled on top.
