Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400°F. 2. In a medium bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, rye flour, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and currants. Add the beer, then gradually mix in the buttermilk until you have a dough that is not too sticky to handle. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times to make sure everything is evenly distributed 3- Form into a large rounded oblong loaf and transfer to a baking sheet. Score the top of the dough in a decorative pattern, then bake for about 40 minutes; the bread should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. Makes 1 loaf.
