Instructions
Step 1
1. Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil on the
stovetop while you peel and cut the potatoes. Blanch the potatoes
in the boiling salted water for 4 minutes while you pre-heat the air
fryer to 400F / 200c. Strain the potatoes and rinse them with cold water.
Dry them well with a clean kitchen towel.
2 to 3 large russet potatoes
peeled and cut into 1/2-inch sticks
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 to 112 cups milk
1/2 cup grated white Cheddar cheese
pinch of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
2. Toss the dried potato sticks gently with the oil and place
them in the air fryer basket. Air-fry for 25 minutes, shaking the
basket a few times while the fries cook to help them brown evenly.
3. While the fries are cooking., melt the butter in a medium
saucepan. Whisk in the flour and cook for one minute. Slowly add
1 cup of milk, whisking constantly. Bring the mixture to a simmer
and continue to whisk untilit thickens. Remove the pan from the
heat and stir in the Cheddar cheese. Add a pinch of nutmeg and
season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Transfer the
warm cheese sauce to a serving dish. Thin with more milk if you
want the sauce a little thinner.
Step 2
4. As soon as the French fries have finished air-frying transfer
them to a large bowl and season them with the 0ld BayR
Seasoning. Return the fries to the air fryer basket and air-fry for
an additional 3 to 5 minutes Serve immediately With the warm
white Cheddar cheese sauce.
