Ingredients

2 Tbsplard
1onion
3garlic cloves
large, chopped
1 ½ cupscarrots
diced
1can white beans
4 cupschicken stock
2bay leaves
large
2 teaspoonsdried thyme
2 teaspoonsgarlic powder
2 teaspoonsonion powder
½ teaspoonwhite pepper
½ teaspoonblack pepper
¼ teaspoonpaprika
1 lbdiced ham
½ cupfresh parsley
chopped
¼ teaspoonliquid smoke
optional, to taste, not needed if using smoked ham hocks
1can kidney beans
1can black beans
4 cupschicken bone broth
Instructions
Step 1
Add lard to a large pot on medium heat
Step 2
Saute onions for 5 minutes, then add garlic for 2 minutes, then add carrots and cook another 5 minutes
Step 3
Add beans and broth and turn heat to high
Step 4
Add the bay leaves, dried thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, black pepper, paprika, liquid smoke, and bring to a boil then simmer for 20 minutes
Step 5
Stir in ham and season with salt and pepper if necessary
