Instructions

Step 1
Caramelize the Onions: Slice the red onion thinly. In a pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they start to soften. Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Set aside.
Step 2
Cook the Steak: Season the beef steak strips with salt and pepper. In another pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the steak strips and cook for about 3 minutes on each side for medium to medium-well doneness. Adjust the time based on your preference. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 3
Prepare the Baguette: Slice the baguette lengthwise. Mix the mustard and mayonnaise and spread them on the baguette.
Step 4
Assemble the Sandwich: Place the cooked steak strips evenly on the bottom half of the baguette. Add the caramelized onions on top of the steak. Place 4 slices of Emmental cheese over the onions. Add a handful of arugula on top of the cheese. Close the sandwich with the top half of the baguette.
Step 5
Serve and Enjoy: Cut the baguette into individual portions if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious steak sandwich!
