Uh-oh! We're unable to calculate nutrition for this recipe because some ingredients aren't recognized.

Instructions

Step 1
Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
Step 2
Combine the egg and buttermilk in a separate bowl. Click here to see how to make buttermilk.
Step 3
In another bowl combine the sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
Step 4
Then you cut your apples into slices, like so. Make them about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 5
Then you cut the middles out. I used a regular knife because I did not have a circular cookie cutter, but if you do then use that. You can also cut smaller rings out of the center of the big slices. Pat the rings with a paper towel to get excess moisture out.
Step 6
Time for frying! Combine the first two bowls and this will be your batter. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan to 375 degrees (medium heat). Wait for the oil to get hot and then dip your apple slices into the batter then into the oil to fry. When they start to turn golden brown flip them. Then lay them on a plate covered with paper towels for a couple seconds then dip them into the cinnamon sugar topping. After they are nice and covered with cinnamon and sugar, lay them on a wire rack. Tip only fry 2 or 3 rings at a time or else you will get overwhelmed.
Step 7
Drizzle them with chocolate syrup and serve them while they are still warm.
