Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the water, sugar, and the active dry yeast.
Step 2
Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
Step 3
Add the melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
Step 4
Gradually mix in half of the flour, stirring until smooth.
Step 5
Slowly add the remaining of flour the until a dough forms.
Step 6
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 7
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 8
After the first rise, punch down the dough to release air.
Step 9
Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan (23x13 cm).
Step 10
Cover the pan and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes, until it's just above the edge of the pan.

OPTIONAL - Just before baking, use a sharp knife or bread lame to make a shallow cut (about 1/4 inch deep) along the top of the loaf.

Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Step 13
Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes. Then turn it out onto a plate or cutting board to cool completely for about 30-60 minutes before slicing.
