Step 1
PREPARE YEAST MIXTURE: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. sprinkle the yeast over the surface and let sit until it dissolves and starts to foam, abput 5-15 minutes.
Step 2
MIX DOUGH: add salt & oil to the yeast mixture. Then, add half of the flour & mix until combined.
Step 3
Gradually add the remaining flour , switching to a dough hook as needed, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
Step 4
FIRST RISE: transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface & knead briefly to form a ball. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it to grease all sides.
Step 5
Cover with plastic wrap or a damp, warm towel & set in a draft-free area. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Step 6
SHAPE LOAVES: remove the cover & punch down the dough. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface & divide it in half. Flatten each half into a rectangle, then roll up tightly, “jelly roll” style, to form a loaf. Pinch the ends together & place each loaf in a greased 9X5 inch bread pan.
Step 7
SECOND RISE: Cover the loaves & let rise again until doubled in size, about 30-50 minutes.
Step 8
BAKING: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the loaves have risen, bake them for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 9
FINISHING TOUCH: Remove the bread from the oven & immediately brush the tops with butter. Allow the loaves to rest in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rake.
