Ingredients

The Crust
2 cupsflour
½ teaspoonbaking powder
1 teaspoonsalt
¾ cupshortening
2 tablespoonsmilk
3 tablespoonswater
1egg yolk
The Filling
Instructions
For The Crust
Step 1
Sift flour into medium-sized bowl. Add baking powder and salt. Toss lightly. Add shortening, mixing until shortening forms small balls.
Step 2
Combine milk and water in small bowl. Add egg yolks. Combine with shortening mixture. Toss lightly until thoroughly mixed. Let stand for 5 minutes at room temperature.
Step 3
Remove from bowl; knead until together.
Step 4
Divide in half, Roll out pastry; line 9-inch pie plate with one portion. Reserve remaining for top crust.
For The Filling
Step 5
Pair apples; slice thin.
Step 6
Combine ¾ to 1 cup sugar, flour, spices and salt. Mix with apples.
Step 7
Pour into pastry shell. Dot with butter. Place remaining pastry on top, fluting edges.
Step 8
Sprinkle with sugar and bake at 400 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes or until apples are done.
