Boone's Chow (Dog Food)

9 steps
Prep:30minCook:2h
Boone's favorite part of the week is smelling his yummy food slow cooking in the crock pot. Highly recommend home cooking your pupper's food, best feeling ever knowing what's going into their bellies.

Instructions

Step 1
In a crock pot, I add 2 cups of bone broth and 2 cups of water. I add the 3 diced sweet potatoes and let those cook on high heat for about an hour.
Step 2
After an hour, I begin browning the 3 lb of turkey in a skillet and also preparing the 1 cup of quick oats.
Step 3
As turkey and oats are cooking, I dice the 2 zucchini and add them to the sweet potatoes in the pot.
Step 4
Add 1 bag of frozen green beans to crock pot. You can add or substitute with different vegetables. Sometimes I use bell pepper, spinach, yellow squash, even apples. As long as they doggy safe.
Step 5
Once turkey is browned, I strain to remove the fat and add cooked meat into crock pot.
Step 6
Add fully cooked oats, and give a big stir. Cook for about 30 minutes to let the meat soak up the broth.
Step 7
I then add 2 cups of frozen green peas and 1 cup of frozen blueberries for sweetness. I let this simmer for another 15-30 minutes.
Step 8
Let food cool before transferring into storage containers. I personally like to put half in the fridge and half in the freezer to keep freshness.
Step 9
This makes about 14 meals, so one week for a dog that eats twice a day. Side note: I still add 1/4-1/2 cup of kibble for added nutrients that I cannot meet with home cooked food.
