Instructions
Step 1
1. Heat oil in large heavy saucepot over medium heat.
Step 2
2. Add beef, turning occasionally, and cook for about 15 minutes, till browned on all sides.
Step 3
3. Remove beef to a plate, then add Italian sausage to pot, and brown as above.
Step 4
4. Drain most of the fat from the pot (leave about 2 tbsp.) and add onion, cooking about 10 minutes, then add garlic for 1 minute.
Step 5
5. Stir in tomato paste, sauce, puree, and sauce.
Step 6
6. Add water to consistency desired.
Step 7
7. Add salt, pepper, basil, Italian seasoning, and meats to pot. Heat to simmer.
Step 8
8. Partially cover pot, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 – 3 hours. (add a little water if the sauce gets too thick)
