Prep

Step 1
Slice the bacon into small strips. Remove any significant amounts of visible fat.

Rinse and chop the broccoli into cubes.

Cook the bacon

Step 3
Place the bacon into a non-stick pan over medium heat. Allow to cook through until it turns lightly brown, turning over as one side is browned.

After the bacon is cooked

Step 4
Boil the pasta in an appropriate amount of water, with a pinch of salt and a dollop oil.

Cook the broccoli

Step 5
In the same pan as the cooked bacon, add broccoli and cook until soft and visibly slightly crispy on the edges. Add spices/herbs as desired, such as chili flakes and pepper.

Drain the cooked pasta

Step 6
Drain the pasta water, leaving about ¾ cup of water in the pot. Do not rinse the pasta.

Assemble

Step 7
Add the cooked bacon and broccoli from the frying pan into the pasta pot. Stir through to ensure even distribution.
Step 8
Serve into plates and finish off each serving with a drizzle of olive oil and 1 tsp balsamic vinegar.
