Instructions
Step 1
Activate yeast In a large bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, honey/sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2
Mix dough Stir in oil (or butter) and salt. Add flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Step 3
Knead Knead by hand 8–10 minutes (or 5–6 minutes with a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
Step 4
First rise
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm spot 1–1½ hours, or until doubled.
Step 5
Shape loaf
Punch down dough. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan
Step 6
Second rise
Punch down dough. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf above the pan.
Step 7
Bake Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.
Step 8
Cool Remove from pans and cool on a rack before slicing.

Notes: 1.For softer bread: replace ½–1 cup water with milk 2.Brush tops with butter after baking for a soft crust 3.Stores well at room temp 2–3 days or freeze for later
