Ingredients

2 cupsall-purpose flour
⅓ cupgranulated sugar
1 Tbspbaking powder
½ tspsalt
½ cupunsalted butter
½ cupheavy cream
1egg

¾ cupdried cherries
Michigan, tart/sour cherries like Montmorency work best
½ cupheavy cream
plus 1-2 tbsp extra for brushing

½ tspalmond extract
pairs amazingly with dried cherries
Instructions
Step 1
Whisk dry ingredients. Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender until crumbly.
Step 2
Toss in the dried cherries.
Step 3
Whisk heavy cream, egg, and almond extract together, then stir into the flour mixture until a dough just forms.
Step 4
Turn onto a board, pat into an 8-inch disc, and cut into 8 wedges.
Step 5
Brush tops with heavy cream, sprinkle with coarse sugar, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden on top.
