Shami Kebab

9 steps
Prep:15minCook:2h
Shami kebabs are patties made with meat and split lentils. Traditionally the recipe has more meat than the split lentils. However, this recipe is made on a 3:1 ratio where 3 is the split lentil, and 1 is the meat. Tastes great if coupled with mint chutney. It can be eaten on its own but can be put in a wrap or a sandwich or with roti and rice. The portion usually would be two shami kebabs. These can be frozen as well.

Instructions

Step 1
Add the mince, split lentils and onions with water to the pot.
Step 2
Add in all the spices, ginger and garlic paste and cook on medium heat for an hour or until the water has evaporated and the lentils are cooked.
Step 3
Transfer the mixture to a food processor, and put the green chillies and the coriander.
Step 4
Blend to a coarse mixture. The mixture has to be fairly dry.
Step 5
Blend the mixture in batches to avoid overfilling the blender.
Step 6

Step 7
Pour the eggs little by little into the mixture to form a dough.
Step 8
Divide the mixture into 34 parts and roll it into balls. Flatten them and make the shami kebabs.
Step 9
Dip the shami kebabs in the remaining egg mixture and shallow fry in a deep pan.
