Dawood Basha is the Lebanese or Middle Eastern way of having meatballs, it is a classic dish of “Kafta” in tomato sauce, sometimes with chunks of potatoes. It’s full of flavor, spiced beautifully and a complete comfort meal.

Instructions

Step 1
Mix all the meatballs ingredients and make equal-sized balls, chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Heat olive oil in a saucepan and brown all of the meatballs stirring carefully, You can do in batches so it is easy to stir and sear evenly, then remove and set aside.
Step 3
To Prepare the tomato Sauce, Purée 2 large tomatoes and keep ready for sauce or feel free to use as finely chopped tomatoes.
Step 4
Heat more olive oil in the same saucepan, Sauté the finely chopped onions and garlic, add the spice powders along with some salt and sauté for few minutes.
Step 5
Stir in the pureed tomatoes, tomato paste and let it boil, add in the pomegranate molasses, give it a quick mix, then place all the meatballs carefully in a single layer.
Step 6
Pour enough water to partially submerge the meatballs, cover and cook on low heat for 20 to 30 mins till the meat is cooked and the sauce starts to thicken.
Step 7
Taste and adjust the seasoning, cover and cook for another 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
Step 8
Garnish with parsley leaves, Serve hot with vermicelli rice.
Step 9
Serve hot with white rice.
