Braised potatoes (Gamja jjorim 알감자 조림)
This is a great little banchan to have with your rice! You can eat them hot or cold! They can be kept in the refrigerator for about 3-4 days.

Ingredients

Braising liquid
2cloves of garlic
3 Tbspsoy sauce
2 Tbspmaple syrup
substitute with sugar or honey
1 Tbsprice wine
optional
¾ cupwater
Garnish
Instructions
Step 1
Peel and cut the potatoes to 1-inch cubes (you can also keep the skin off, if you prefer). Peel and cut the carrots and onions into big chunks.
Step 2
Wash the potatoes to remove the starch.
Step 3
In a pan, add the cooking oil. Put the potatoes and carrots in. Pan-fry the potatoes until they turn slightly golden around the edges.
Step 4
Add garlic and onion and cook until they look translucent.
Step 5
Add the ingredients for the braising liquid in (i.e. soy sauce, maple syrup, rice wine and water). Mix and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until when the liquid is evaporated. Remember to stir occasionally so that the potatoes don't stick.
Step 6
Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds to your taste.
