Batter Chicken
Step 1
Combine flour, cornstarch, eggs, white pepper, salt, water, and oil. Mix till batter is smooth.
Step 2
Add chicken into batter and marinate in fridge for 30 minutes to 1 hour
Fry Chicken
Step 3
In deep pot, heat frying oil to 350F. Gently add chicken into oil and fry in batches till golden brown (do not overcrowd pot with chicken). Remove from oil on wire rack or paper towel.
Prepare Orange Sauce
Step 4
In wok or deep pot, add vegetable oil and sauté chili flakes, garlic, and ginger on medium heat.
Step 5
Combine white & brown sugar, vinegar, orange juice, and soy sauce. (make sure to add wet ingredients directly after sugars to ensure sugar does not burn)
Step 6
In separate bowl, combine water and cornstarch. Mix till smooth.
Step 7
Add cornstarch mixture into orange sauce a spoonful at a time. Mix a little at a time until sauce is thickened to desired level
Complete Dish
Step 8
Add fried chicken into sauce and coat
Step 9
Drizzle sesame seed oil onto sauced chicken and toss till glossy
Step 10
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onion
