Caramel Nut Bars

Caramel nut bars. They have a shortbread crust with a gooey middle and shortbread topping. ( I made with half caramel and half butterscotch chips, but recipe calls for all caramel.)

Instructions
Step 1
Spray 13 x 9 pan with baking spray and preheat oven to 350.
Step 2
In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and egg.
Step 3
Cut in 1/2 cup cold butter until crumbly. Reserve 2 cups mixture for top.
Step 4
Stir in nuts if using nuts
Step 5
Press crumbs firmly in pan and bake 15 to 20 minutes or till bubbly.
Step 6
Meanwhile, in a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk, and add 1/4 cup butter. Pour over crust.
Step 7
Top with remaining crumbs and bake 15 to 20 minutes or until bubbly.
Step 8
Cool and cut in bars
