Instructions
The dough
Step 1
Mix oil, salt and egg in bowl with whisk
Step 2
Add whey and whisk again
Step 3
Start adding flour in portions and continue whisking
Step 4
When dough starts to get hard to whisk, start kneading with hand
Step 5
When all flour is added, transfer the dough from the bowl onto table and continue kneading with hands for ~10min (until dough stops sticking to hands)
Step 6
Transfer dough back to bowl and cover it with cling film while preparing cherries
Filling
Step 7
Wash cherries, remove pits, put cherries in bowl with salty water and keep it there for 10-15mins
Step 8
Wash again, remove all water and add about 25-50g of sugar on cherries (if you don't like it sweet, don't do it)
Build vareniki
Step 9
Use rolling pin to get dough into 1cm flat dough
Step 10
Use cap (or something of a circle shape) to press out enough dough for 1 varenik
Step 11
Put single cherry into the dough and wrap it around cherry; ensure it is closed firmly
Step 12
Repeat steps 9-11 unless all dough or cherries are used
Step 13
Either cook all vareniki in one go and serve with sour cream, or store them in the freezer for up to 3 month to enjoy the beauty later 😉
