Classic bacon and cheese burgers

Everybody loves a good, juicy and delicious classic bacon and cheese burger. So, save the money you would have spent on takeaway’s tonight by creating these yummy and easy to prepare burgers.

Ingredients

1onion
finely chopped
1garlic clove
crushed
500gbeef mince
fresh parsley
finely chopped
½ cupfresh breadcrumbs
1egg
beaten
1 teaspoonssalt
to taste
black pepper
to taste
1 Tbsponion powder
1 Tbspsmoked paprika
1 Tbspgarlic powder
4slices of processed cheese
8 slicesbacon
cooked to your preference
fresh lettuce
tomatoes
ripe, sliced
4 tablespoonsmayonnaise
4bread rolls
butter - toasted
Instructions
Step 1
Fry the onion in a large frying pan in a splash of olive oil until golden brown. Add the garlic and fry for another 30 seconds then remove from the heat. Allow to cool to room temperature.
Step 2
Mix the cooled onions with the beef, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder and smoked paprika. To test the seasoning, fry a teaspoon-full of the mixture in the pan you cooked the onions in. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
Step 3
Divide the mixture into 5-6 (depending on how you big you want the patties), and form patties with wet hands.
Step 4
Place on a tray lined with baking paper and place in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
Step 5
When the patties have rested, heat a large cast iron pan/griddle pan until hot then cook the burgers until charred and cooked to your preference. (You can also cook the burgers on a braai/barbecue.)
Step 6
Remove from the heat, top with the cheese and cover with foil for two minutes.
Step 7
Top the buns with a generous spoonful of mayo, lettuce, tomato, the patty with cheese and finally bacon.
Step 8
Serve immediately.
