Spaghetti Carbonara with Green Peas and Basil

Spaghetti carbonara. Peas and basil are meant to be a side dish but I like mixing them right in!

Ingredients
6 servings
16 ozwhole wheat spaghetti
12 ozbacon
chopped
3cloves garlic
minced
4eggs
large
1 cupparmesan cheese
freshly grated
1 tsppepper
For the peas
Instructions
Step 1
Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving 1/2c pasta water.
Step 2
Meanwhile, cook bacon in a large deep skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes or until crisp; drain off most of drippings. Add garlic to skillet, cook 1 minute. Add pasta to skillet and toss. Cook 2 minutes or until very hot; set aside.
Step 3
Whisk together eggs and cheese in a bowl; add to mixture of hot pasta and bacon in skillet. Toss using tongs. Add 1/2 cup pasta water and pepper; toss again.
For peas
Step 4
Sauté onion in hot oil in a sauce pan over medium high heat 5 minutes or until tender. Add peas, broth, salt and pepper; cook 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Stir in desired amount of basil.
