Ingredients
4 servings
FOR CHICKEN
1 poundchicken thighs
cut into 1 inch chunks
¼ cupcornstarch
oil for frying
4cloves garlic
minced
½ teaspoonred chili flakes
1 teaspoonginger
minced, this is optional because ginger will be in sauce
FOR GENERAL TSO SAUCE
6 teaspoonsrice vinegar
½ cupsoy sauce
low sodium, or tamari sauce
3 tablespoonshoisin sauce
1 cupchicken broth
low sodium, or veggie broth
6 tablespoonswhite sugar
or turbinado sugar
6 tablespoonsbrown sugar
2 teaspoonfresh ginger
minced
1 teaspoongarlic powder
½ teaspoonred pepper flakes
2 tablespooncornstarch
Instructions
Step 1
Toss the chicken thighs with the quarter cup of cornstarch and let sit while you mix the sauce ingredients.
Step 2
PREPARE SAUCE! (THIS CAN ALSO BE DONE AHEAD OF TIME AND STORED IN FRIDGE)
Add the rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chicken broth, sugars, garlic powder, red pepper, ginger and tablespoon of cornstarch in a small bowl and whisk together.
Step 3
Add the chicken to a pan with the oil and fry until crispy.
Step 4
Remove chicken from the pan and drain all but a tablespoon of the oil and add the chili flakes, garlic and ginger (optional, because of ginger in sauce)
Step 5
Cook until you smell the garlic (about 30 seconds).
Step 6
Add in the chicken and toss, then add in the sauce.
Step 7
Stir for about 30 seconds until thickened.
Step 8
Serve immediately! ENJOYYYY!
