Sunday Sauce ( Spaghetti sauce / Meat sauce )

8 steps
Prep:15minCook:5h
I do a series on Tiktok called Kitchen Basics 101, where I teach the barebones basics, as if you have never cooked a day in your life, from the perspective of a mom. You can watch me step by step cook this and all my other recipes there! What can I say about Sunday sauce? There’s lots of tweaks you can make to suit your tastes, but nothings better than a pot of delicious comfort, food simmering on the stove all day. You can use the sauce to make spaghetti, baked ziti, lasagna, and so much more!

Instructions

Step 1
Prepare onions and garlic into fine mince or blend in food processor, and set aside
Step 2
Heat large Dutch oven with tablespoon of olive oil and brown ground beef and ground Italian sausage.
Step 3
Once the meat is browned, add the onions and garlic to pot and sauté until fragrant
Step 4
Push meat aside and add tomato paste to pan and sauté for a minute before combining with meat and vegetables
Step 5
Once everything is incorporated, add peeled tomatoes, either whole or smash them in a bowl with your hands before adding them to the pot. Use the can to add one can of filtered water to the pot
Step 6
Add salt, pepper, basil, sugar, and Parmesan rind to pot and stir to combine
Step 7
Bring everything up to a vigorous simmer, then cover, reduce heat to low and allow to cook for four hours. Stirring and checking every hour.
Step 8
Always taste before serving and add seasonings as needed. I usually end up adding some salt and fresh basil, if I have it, at the end.
