🍯 HONEY-GLAZED BBQ CHARSIU (蜜汁叉燒) RECIPE
2 lbs of pork belly (skinless)
WATER TO SOAK PORK
Hot water (as needed)
2 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of white vinegar
MARINATE
2 tbsp of hoisin sauce
1 tbsp of bean sauce
2 blocks of fermented red bean curd
1 tsp of sesame sauce
1 tsp of peanut sauce
3 tbsp of ketchup
1/2 tsp of soy sauce
1/2 tsp of dark soy sauce
1 tbsp of vodka
1 tbsp of minced garlic
2 tbsp of minced pineapple
4 tbsp of sugar
1/2 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of five spice powder
1/4 tsp of ginger powder
GLAZE
2-3 tbsp of honey (as you like)
🍯 INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove the pork belly skin & soak it in warm water with salt & vinegar for 20 minutes.
2. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients in MARINATE.
3. Rinse & pat dry the pork belly
4. Pour the marinate sauce over the pork belly. Coat it evenly and marinate for 3-4 hrs. (Don’t marinate for any longer because the acidity of the marinate can affect the texture of the meat.)
5. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Put the pork belly/charsiu on a rack in a baking sheet. Broil for 20 min. Take it out & flip them over. Broil for about 20 min until you see char/slightly burnt edges. Brush on honey. Broil for about 5-10 min. Brush on more honey if you like.
6. Let it cool for ~10 min. Cut it up. Enjoy over rice with soy sauce! 🥰
