Instructions
Step 1
In med. bowl, gently whisk together yeast, warm water, & sugar; let it stand until bubbly (5 min.)
Step 2
Whisk in warm milk, baking soda, salt, & 1C flour until smooth; mix in remaining flour in similar manner.
Step 3
PROOF: Spray two 9” pans with nonstick cooking spray; dust bottoms with cornmeal. Divide dough between pans, spreading it out a little. (Yeast will do the rest.). Spray plastic wrap with nonstick cooking spray& lightly cover each pan. Proof (let rise) in 150-175F oven (or a warm, draft-free place) for 1 hr.
Preheat oven to 375°F
Step 4
Remove plastic wrap; bake (20 min.) until golden brown. Brush tops of bread lightly with melted butter; cool completely in pans.
Step 5
Dust off loose cornmeal. Slice the bread loaves in half horizontally, and start creating your sandwich masterpiece!
Step 6
Serve with a nice lunch meat & cheese and thin sliced veggies (lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, etc. with mayo and/ or mustard.
