Farfel Marshmallow Treats

Instructions

Step 1
Melt butter on low heat.
Step 2
Add marshmallows and stir until melted.

STEEL BLADE:

Chop nuts with quick on-off turns, until finely chopped.
Step 4
Add half of the nuts to marshmallows. Reserve remaining nuts for garnish.
Step 5
Stir in matzah farfel and cinnamon. Mix well.
Step 6
Spread evenly in a buttered 9” c 13” pan.
Step 7
Wet hands and pat the mixture evenly.
Step 8
Melt chocolate. Drizzle evenly over farfel mixture.
Step 9
Sprinkle with reserved nuts. Cool until chocolate is set.
Step 10
Cut in squares.

MARILYN SULTAR’S VERSION:

I like to use the coconut coated marshmallows. The coconut adds an extra layer of flavor. I use walnuts for the nuts, and I bet pecans would be good. If you are serving to older adult or kids losing their teeth, don’t use almonds. I speak from experience. We older people have trouble eating hard nuts such as almonds.

I spray my 9”x 13” pan. Easier to use than butter. Besides, you want to make these parve (neutral to use with a meat meal or dairy meal).

My method of preparation: I prepare my pan before I begin. I pour the matzah farfel in a huge bowl that I have, but you can use a soup pot too. Mix in cinnamon. Set farfel aside. I melt the butter in my microwave for 10 seconds at a time until melted. Use a large microwave-safe bowl or pot. You will need it for the marshmallows! Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and mix together just a bit. Return the bowl or pot to microwave and microwave for 10 seconds at a time until marshmallows are melted. Watch the marshmallows carefully as the melt quickly. Then mix to make sure butter is all incorporated into the marshmallows. Pour the hot marshmallow mixture over the farfel mixture with a big wooden spoon sprayed with cooking oil or any heavy duty large spoon. I follow the rest of the recipe to the point of melting the chocolate. I melt mine in the microwave in 10 second intervals, until smooth and shiny, then drizzle over the pan of farfel and finish with finely chopped nuts.
