Vietnamese Rice Cakes with Savory Gravy (Banh Beo)
Banh Beo is my husband’s FAVORITE dish. I learned this recipe from my mother in law. His family is from Danang and this banh beo with gravy is one of their local favorites. Nuoc mam (fish sauce)is drizzled over the dish to give it that spicy, salty and sweet flavor.
You can make the rice cakes (banh beo)at home. They sell the banh beo flour mix at the Asian market and you just mix according to the instructions and steam it. My brother found a place in Orange County, CA that sold 100 pieces for $16 and I’d buy it every single time over making it. Easier option is making larger pieces to cut down prep time.
