Crumpets.
Do you like yours sweet or savoury?
Today I woke up with a sudden urge to make sourdough crumpets for breakfast. Because sourdough makes everything better, no?
For those who do not yet have a sourdough starter, I have also included the
instant yeast recipe so that no one misses out on this gem of a super easy recipe!
I like that the crumpets turned out light and spongey with delicious crisp edges. Iβm a huge butter fan and I love how all the holes in the crumpet catch all the melted butter and not a single drop was wasted!
This recipe is so easy to make and you can use up tons of discards! They freeze well and you can just pop them in the toaster whenever you feel like one!

Makes 6 crumpets
ππ€πͺπ§ππ€πͺππ πΎπ§πͺπ’π₯ππ©π¨ :
300g Sourdough Discard
100g All-Purpose Flour/ Cake Flour
100g Water
5g Baking Soda/ powder
4g Salt
15g Sugar
ππ£π¨π©ππ£π© ππππ¨π© πΎπ§πͺπ’π₯ππ©π¨ :
250g All-Purpose Flour
230g Water
5g Baking Soda/ powder
3g Instant Yeast
4g Salt
15g Sugar

β‘οΈ Stir all the ingredients together until everything is evenly incorporated and form a smooth batter
β‘οΈ Rest the batter for 30 minutes until the batter gets nice and bubbly
β‘οΈ Heat up a non-stick griddle/ pan and melt a knob of butter
β‘οΈ Place well-oiled crumpet rings in the pan and fill it with batter to 2/3 of the ring height
β‘οΈ Start with a medium flame
Turn down the heat and continue cooking until the sides of the crumpet is set
Remove the rings with a pair of tongs
β‘οΈ Flip the crumpets until they are evenly cooked through
Enjoy with a pat of butter and honey while warm or as a savoury treat!
