Slow Cooker Apple Butter

If you have lots of apples - make apple butter! Top it on waffles, pancakes, even ice cream. Add it to muffin batters, quick breads, and even in pies. Options are endless! It’s so easy to make as the slow cooker does all the work for you.

Step 1
Core and dice all the apples in to small 1 inch cubes. There is no need to peel the apples. Place all the apples in the slow cooker sleeve.
Step 2
To the apples, add the spices, salt, apple cider vinegar granulated sugar, brown sugar, zest of both the orange and lemon, and water.
Step 3
Mix everything around with your hands, it doesn’t have to be perfectly coated as everything will melt together.
Step 4
Place the lid on the slow cooker and set it on low for 10 to 12 hours.
Step 5
Use an immersion blender to blend it all smooth. Place the lid back on halfway to create a vent as the apple butter needs to thicken further. Set it on low for 2 more hours. By the end the consistency should have thickened up.
Step 6
Add the vanilla extract at this point and mix through.
Step 7
To store, make sure it cools completely before transferring. It lasts in the fridge for up to a week. Freezing it can last up to 6 months.
