Step 1
Preheat oven to 180C
Step 2
Fry the onions in the olive oil until golden brown

Add the chicken strips and toss over a high heat until they turn white

Put into a deep ovenproof dish
Step 5
Add the remaining ingredients and mix well to combine

Season with salt and pepper
Step 7
Cover the dish and bake for 90 minutes, stirring every 30 minutes. Add more water if necessary.
Step 8
This stew can be cooked on top of the stove. Cover the pan, turn down the heat to its lowest setting and simmer for 90 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and top-up with more water if the stew seems too dry.
