This tasty low energy density dessert provides a little under 200 calories per 144 g serving, 100 calories less than an equivalent serving of some supermarket brand apple crumbles. It is also packed full of the hunger-reducing fibre, pectin. Serve with Greek yoghurt, reduced-fat single cream or custard (with an energy density of less than 1.5 calories per 100 millilitres). Vegans can replace the Greek yoghurt with a non-dairy version.

Step 1
Chop the apples and place in a bowl with the lemon juice, a 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well and set aside for 30 minutes. Put all the remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl and with the fingers blend them together until the mixture resembles a crumble consistency. Line a small loaf tin (9 x 5 inch) with greaseproof paper then evenly add the apple mixture. Spread the topping over the apples, pushing it down so that it is firm. Place in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45 minutes until the topping begins to brown. Allow to cool then serve. Suggested servings: Four.
