Morning Smoothie

This is based on gruel receipts I have found in 15th and 16th century medicinal books. They were specifically intended for people who were recovering from illness. I have substituted gelatin for hartshorn (which was a crude source of gelatin) and added frozen berries instead of a fruit conserve so it's sugar free. Historically they would simmer the ingredients in water and drink the gruel after it had cooled, which is when well to do people might stir in butter or fruit conserves for flavoring. Modernly of course we know that raw oats are better for us due to resistant starches so it is perhaps best made without cooking.
