Instructions
Step 1
First up, grab your biggest pot and melt that butter over medium heat. Toss in those sliced onions - I know it looks like a lot, but they'll cook down! Sprinkle in your pepper and garlic powder, and let everything cook until the onions turn this beautiful golden color and get super soft - about 8 minutes or so.
Step 2
Now pour in your broth and Worcestershire sauce. Give it a taste and add salt if needed. Pop the lid on and let it simmer away for about 10 minutes.
Step 3
Here comes the fun part! Turn on your broiler and grab some oven-safe bowls. Put them on a baking sheet (trust me, this makes life easier). Fill each bowl with your steaming soup, top with a slice of that toasted bread, and layer on the cheese.
Step 4
Slide these under the broiler and keep an eye on them! The cheese should get all melty and bubbly in about 2-3 minutes. Don't walk away - it can go from perfect to burnt in seconds!
Step 5
Let them cool for a minute before diving in - the bowls will be super hot!
Step 6
Tip: I love making this on Sunday afternoons when I've got time to let those onions get really golden. The smell is amazing!
