Optionals : Cocoa Powder, "Smoked" Paprika rather than regular paprika, Jalapenos
Cook-off instructions. The night before, brown the meat, add onions, peppers and spices, (steps 1-5) then cool for 10 minutes and add to a bag in the fridge. Add all other ingredients to the other bag. Then in the morning add both bags to a crock pot and cook.

2 Tbspchili powder
2 tspground cumin
1 tspsmoked paprika
1 tspdried oregano
½ tspblack pepper
1 tspsalt
add 1/4 if needed
Sauce
2 Tbsptomato paste
1 ½ cupssalsa
16 ozcan tomato sauce
or crushed tomatoes
½ cupbeef broth
or water, use less for thicker chili

Instructions
Brown the Beef
Step 1
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef 5-7 minutes
Step 2
Drain excess grease (leave a little for flavor)
Build Flavor
Step 3
Add onion + bell pepper. Cook 3-4 minutes until softened.
Step 4
Add garlic + jalapeno. Cook 30 seconds
Step 5
Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, pepper, and salt. Cook 1 minute (it should smell really good).
Slow cook
Step 6
Transfer everything to a slow cooker
Step 7
Add tomato sauce, salsa, broth/water, beans, corn, Worcestershire, and cocoa (if using).
Step 8
Stir well
Cook
Step 9
LOW 6-8 hours (best) or HIGH 3-4 hours.
Finish + serve
Step 10
Stir, then add lime juice or vinegar
Step 11
Taste and adjust salt/spice
Step 12
Serve topped with cheese (and optional sour cream, green onions, cilantro)
