Instructions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.
Step 2
2. Gently separate the kataifi dough strands with your fingers to loosen them, being careful not to break them too much—this helps create a flaky texture later.
Step 3
3. In a medium bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with the ground cinnamon until evenly combined.
Step 4
4. Spread half of the kataifi dough evenly in the prepared baking dish to form a base layer.
Step 5
5. Sprinkle the walnut and cinnamon mixture evenly over the kataifi base layer.
Step 6
6. Top with the remaining kataifi dough, spreading it out to cover the walnuts completely.
Step 7
7. Drizzle the remaining melted butter evenly over the top layer of kataifi, ensuring it soaks in for a golden finish.
Step 8
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
Step 9
9. While baking, combine the granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
Step 10
10. Bring the syrup to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes until it slightly thickens.
Step 11
11. Remove the syrup from heat and stir in the honey until well blended.
Step 12
12. Once the kataifi is out of the oven, immediately pour the hot honey syrup evenly over the top, allowing it to absorb for at least 30 minutes before serving—this step is key for that signature moist interior.
Step 13
My favorite part is the contrast between the crispy, buttery layers and the gooey, honey-soaked center; it’s pure comfort in every bite. Serve it warm with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a sprinkle of extra walnuts for an extra indulgent treat that always disappears fast!
