Healthy Shepherd’s Pie
12 steps
Prep:25minCook:45min
This shepherd’s pie is a lighter, heart-friendly take on the traditional dish. Lean ground beef is gently cooked with onions, carrots, peas, and finely blended beans that vanish into the sauce, boosting fiber and protein while helping regulate blood sugar and cholesterol. Garlic, rosemary, and turmeric add depth and anti-inflammatory benefits to the savory filling.
The topping is a smooth mash made from regular potatoes, enriched with a drizzle of olive oil instead of butter to keep it cholesterol-conscious. A modest sprinkle of reduced-fat cheese melts into a golden crust, giving that classic comfort-food finish without excess fat. The result is a nourishing, balanced pie that delivers all the warmth and satisfaction of the original, while supporting diabetic and anti-inflammatory eating goals.
