Instructions
Step 1
1. Grease and line an 18cm (7 inch) square tin.
Step 2
2. Warm milk in a small saucepan.
Step 3
To microwave: Heat milk in a small bowl or jug for 1 minute.

3. Add dates to milk and stand for 15 minutes.

4. Mix together flour, baking powder and spice in a bowl.

5. Beat egg, melted butter and orange rind into milk.
Step 7
6. Stir into dry ingredients with orange flesh and mix well.

7. Spoon into prepared tin.
Step 9
8. Bake at 180°C (350°F) Mark 4 for 40 minutes, until risen and golden brown. Cool on a wire cooling rack.
Step 10
9. Store in an airtight container for no longer than 2 days. Serve cut into fingers.
