Arabic One Pot Spiced Rice & Ground Beef (Hashweh Rice)

I love making this one pot spice, ground beef and rice, because it comes together quickly and is a protein filled meal that me and my family enjoy, especially the kids! Each bite must have a bit of yoghurt mixed in, and of course some crunchy almonds. The spice and the texture in this dish is unreal! Considering how simple it is to make! This comes together from start to finish in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

2 Tbspolive oil
1red onion
small, diced finely
1 lbextra lean ground beef
1 tspground allspice
1 tspcinnamon
1 tspground cardamom
½ tspground cumin
1 tspground black pepper
1 tspsalt
2 cupsbasmati rice
rinsed and washed clear, not soaked
½ TbspArabic 7 spice
or allspice, if not using a spiced homemade broth
4 cupsbroth
or water, be sure to add Arabic 7 spice if using water

Instructions
Step 1
In a non-stick pot on medium heat pour olive oil. Sauté the onion for a few minutes until translucent. Add the ground beef and break it apart finely. Once fully browned add ground allspice, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, black pepper, and 1 tsp salt. Mix everything around for a minute. Set aside ¼ cup of the ground beef for garnish later.
Step 2
Add the cleaned basmati rice and mix it around until coated well with the spices. Pour over broth or water. If you’re not using a spiced homemade broth, then add ½ tsp Arabic 7 spice and mix it around. Add salt, and mix.
Step 3
Bring to a boil and cover with a lid. Lower the heat to low and set the timer for 20 minutes.
Step 4
Mix around the ground beef to evenly distribute it and serve hot. Garnish with the reserved ground beef, fried almonds, and parsley.
Step 5
Serve with a salad, and yogurt.
For the fried almonds
Step 6
In a small skillet, toss 2 teaspoons of neutral oil with the blanched almonds on medium heat until golden.
