Mix sifted flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Cut butter into the dry ingredients, forming small balls. Add raisins and caraway seeds and mix. Slowly add buttermilk and mix with a fork. Knead on a floured surface 10 times. Form a ball and cut it in half, placing on a greased cookie sheet. Slightly depress and cut an X into the top. Mix egg yolk with a little water and brush on the tops. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
