Instructions

Step 1
To a saucepan with a good fitting lid add butter/oil and rice. Coat the rice well in the butter or oil and fry it until it turns brighter white and starts to brown.
Step 2
Add water and salt. Stir. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, stir one last time.
Step 3
Cover and reduce heat to low. You will know that your temperature is correct if a little steam is visible leaking from the lid. A lot of steam means your heat is too high.
Step 4
Cook for 16 minutes. DO NOT LIFT LID! The steam that is trapped inside the pan is what allows the rice to cook properly.
Step 5
After 16 minutes, turn off burner and let sit for 3 minutes with lid still on.
Step 6
After 3 minutes, remove the lid and fluff with a fork. Put lid back on but leave the lid open about two inches until ready to serve.
