Amazing air fryer fries

8 steps
Prep:40minCook:20min
Let me start this off by saying I have a small, cheap air fryer that doesn’t have any temperature controls! Your cook time may vary depending on what type of fryer you have. Coming into my 3rd trimester of pregnancy I have had a MASSIVE craving for french fries but frozen fries aren’t quite tasty enough and going to a fast food place is not at all on my list of things I want to do throughout the day! Grabbing a bag of russet potatoes will run you maybe $5 dollars at aldi and it will last at least a week if you make this recipe once a day (mind you this recipe is enough for two so if you cut the recipe in half your stash will last even longer!)

Instructions

To prep the potatoes

Step 1
Wash, peel then chop your potatoes into skinny match sticks (the thinner the better, I go for about 1/2 and inch). I find that the easiest way to do this is to cut off a small slice from the potato so that it lays flat on the cutting board and doesn’t roll.

Place your potato sticks into a large bowl of ice water for around 30 minutes. This helps remove some of the starch from the potato! Eventually your water will become cloudy.

Drain your water and give the potatoes a quick rinse before pat drying them on your cutting board (paper towels work great for this). Rinse and dry your bowl before adding your now dry potato sticks back in.

Cook to Perfection

Step 6
For my smaller air fryer, I have to cook this in half batches in order to avoid overcrowding. Try to space the fries evenly and into the fryer it goes for 10 minutes. (If your air fryer requires more settings, set it to 375)

Step 7
After the first round in the heat, give your fries a good shake in order to move them around a bit and avoid burning. Feel free to flip them at this time if you feel that is necessary for your type of air fryer. Put back into the fryer for 10 more minutes.

Step 8
Now your fries should be cooked to absolute perfection! Feel free to cook longer to achieve a more crispy fry (I’d recommend 5 minute intervals). Add your Parmesan cheese and extra salt if wanted and enjoy!
