Instructions
Step 1
In a medium bowl, whisk together cornstarch, mirin, soy sauce, and five-spice powder.
Step 2
Add beef and combine well.
Step 3
Marinate for about 30 minutes.
Step 4
Place a strainer in the sink and add peas and onion.
Step 5
Pour boiling water over them for about 10 seconds, then set aside.
(If using frozen peas, do not blanch them.)
Step 6
In a wok or large nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat.
Step 7
Then add beef, reserving the marinade, and stir-fry for about 2 minutes.
Step 8
Add peas, onions, and marinade and continue to stir-fry until beef is cooked, about 2 minutes more.
(Be careful not to overcook the vegetables.)
Step 9
Serve hot with steamed rice or Chinese crepe-type pancakes.
