Instructions

Step 1
Make pastry by rubbing fat into flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add enough cold water to bring to a dough.
Step 2
Clean whelks. Scrub with lime, scald, pound, and season.
Step 3
Heat oil and fry whelks, salt beef/pork, onions and seasoning for 2 minutes.
Step 4
Add water and potatoes and simmer until tender - about 10 minutes.
Step 5
Mash the potatoes a little to thicken stew.
Step 6
Allow to cool.
Step 7
Line pie dish with pastry. Bake blind for 10 minutes. Put in filling. Cover with pastry.
Step 8
Bake at 400 degrees fahrenheit for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
