Tofu chicken

This cooking method for tofu makes it really flavourful and chewy. Surprisingly similar to chicken and sooooo much better than regular cooking methods. You gotta try it.

Instructions

PREP

Step 1
Press the tofu for around 30 mins
Step 2
Cut or tear the tofu into bit-sized chunks and dry well with towel
Step 3
Place the pieces in a dry container (can use original tofu container) and freeze at least overnight before use

COOKING

Step 4
Whenever you are ready to cook some, get out as much as you need, separate the pieces and wrap them in towel to absorb as much moisture as possible, while tofu is defrosting to 100% thawed. It's possible to sprinkle salt over the tofu to help absorb more of the liquid inside
Step 5
Once thawed, place the tofu pieces in a dry tea-towel and lightly press them with your hands to remove even more water
Step 6
Place tofu in bowl, drizzle soy sauce and toss to coat evenly
Step 7
Drizzle oil and toss to coat
Step 8
Cover lightly with salt and then cornflour. Toss to coat until you can see no more cornflour
Step 9
Bake in an oven preheated to 180° for 20 to 30 minutes or until the tofu has browned and is dry to the touch (similar to a wooden stick)
Step 10
Add to any dish (better cooked in the sauce) to replace roasted chicken
