1. Top and tail beans and remove stringy sides.

2. Slice beans diagonally into thin strips.

3. Cook in boiling water for 10-15 minutes, or until tender.

To microwave: Cook with 60ml (4 tbsp) water, covered, for 10-12 minutes, stirring at least twice.

4. Fry bacon, onion and garlic in butter until pale gold.

To microwave: Cook bacon and butter, uncovered for 2 minutes. Stir in onion and garlic, cover and cook for 3 minutes or until soft.

To microwave: Drain beans and return to dish.

6. Stir in bacon mixture and soy sauce.

7. Heat through gently, shaking pan frequently.
