Been making this egg sandwich since I was a teenager who was trusted with the kitchen equipment.
This is an effortless sandwich that anyone can throw together. Hardest part is timing everything.
Choice of bread is any bread, but it’s best with brioche or sweet breads. You can add honey if you don’t have sweet bread.
You can add a sausage patty to it and add peanut butter instead of butter for a Goober variety.
My son likes to add ketchup which I will always loathe.

Instructions
Step 1
Get all the ingredients out just to make things simple.
Get a plate to prepare the bread on.
Step 2
Add bread into a bread toaster, set to desired toastiness.. I prefer 3-4. Don't start toasting yet.

Heat a pan to medium and drop 1 Tbsp butter in, spread this butter around the pan.

Once butter is melted or mostly melted, add 1 egg. Usually takes around 1-2 min. I usually will salt and pepper the egg.
Start the bread toaster.
If you go with the Goober variant, you'll also start cooking the sausage patty however you do it.

We're aiming for "over-easy" eggs but it's all up to your preference.
For over easy, I wait until the egg whites are just starting to firm up. Easy test for that is to cut them. If they aren't firm, the cut immediately will fill in.
Step 6
The toast will hopefully be done around the same time the egg is ready to flip. If the egg is not ready, it's a good time to go ahead and butter the toast. Once egg white is firm enough, flip the egg and wait about 30 seconds then turn the heat off.
Step 7
Add the egg onto one of your buttered slices of toast, then the slice of cheese, and the other toast on top. Easy peasy.
