Step 1
Fill a large pot with water. Place on the stove and turn the heat to high to bring to a boil. Place a colander in the sink. Open the can of tomatoes.

Place a large saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium. Measure and pour in the oil and heat until it shimmers. Scoop up the chopped garlic with your knife and add to the pot. Cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, until light golden brown, about 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tomatoes. Then stir in the salt, red pepper, and black pepper. Return to the heat and let come to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring often, for 15 minutes. If the sauce becomes too thick and starts to sputter, add up to 1/2 cup water for desired consistency.
