Instructions
Step 1
1. Start by peeling and cubing your apples.
Step 2
2. Place in a saucepan on a medium heat with 50g sugar and lemon zest.
Step 3
3. Pop the lid on and cook for 5 mins:until the apples have softened. Remove the heat and leave to cool a little.
Step 4
4. Meanwhile, cube the butter and place in a mixing bowl with the flour. Rub together with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs, then scrunch in the remaining sugar to add a little texture.
Step 5
5. For the egg mixture, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon.
Step 6
6. Slice your brioche bread and dip both sides in the egg mixture.
Step 7
7. Add a knob of butter to a pan and set to a medium heat. Cook the bread on each side until slightly brown.
Step 8
8. Top the bread with your apple filling and then with your crumble
Step 9
9. Bake until the crumble is golden in an oven or air fryer (approximately 15 minutes) at 180C
Step 10
10. Layer your fresh toasts if you like and serve with ice cream and dessert sauce or syrup of your choice. Enjoy :)
Step 11
NOTE: I recommend making an apple crumble and just saving some filling and crumble for this French toast! It’s more time effective and you get two recipes out of it :)
